Pine Mountain Trail Hike

The Pine Mountain Trail Conference and ECAHCĀ invites everyone out to hike the Elkhorn City and Breaks loop of the state park on Saturday, February 20. The group will gather at the trailhead shelter on Carson Island in Elkhorn City at 9:30 a.m.

This strenuous winter hike will cover approximately 6 miles, from the shelter up the old road/trail and up Buzzard Bait to the Yellow Cliffs that overlook east Elkhorn City and Pool Point. This is over a 1200 foot elevation gain in about 2 miles, so be prepared! After a snack break, we'll hike around the knob and back down the ridge passing Chimney Rock and the Towers and back to the old Domas mine site. The views of the Breaks Canyon and Russell Fork river are spectacular with 500 foot cliffs on the other side. From Domas, we'll follow the old road back down past Buzzard Bait and back to the shelter. Approximate duration 4+ hours.

PMTĀ Conference and ECAHC member Steve Ruth will lead the hike and share plans for the Pine Mountain Trail and the Great Eastern Trail. For more information, contact Steve.

Recommended: Moisture resistant hiking boots, a camera, trail snacks and water. Dress appropriately for weather conditions and remember conditions can change quickly!
