In our 10 year history, we've overseen a number of projects made possible through the generous support of our funders, individual donors, and volunteers. We're proud of our track record but are dedicated to increasing the scope and impact of projects we choose to pursue.
Elkhorn City is a small town located in Pike County, Kentucky near the Virginia state line. Elkhorn City seats at the mouth of the fabulous "Breaks of the Cumberland Gorge" within 3 miles of the Breaks Interstate Park.
Elkhorn City is a community with many individuals striving to achieve a quality of life that is enjoyable. This would include cultural and material services that will satisfy the needs of many citizens and also characterize the modern age with a deep concern for the historical.
The Elkhorn City Area Heritage Council, Inc., is primarily concerned with recognizing and preserving our many historical places.
A community should be a lot of people striving toward a common good. That could be many individuals with like or diverse interests trying to achieve a quality of life that is acceptable.
A good community would be made up of people that did not criticize every move made by people in authority. City government and people who volunteer services would work together and not polarize themselves from each other. The community would offer many services that would improve the quality of life for its citizens. This would include cultural as well as material services that would satisfy the needs of many and characterize that modern age with a deep concern for the past.
A community should accept the concept of the American dream. All the negatives that surface in a community should be weighed against the positives before any drastic action is taken by the people involved.
The mission of the Elkhorn City Area Heritage Council, Inc., is to protect and to preserve the history, culture and natural beauty of the Elkhorn City Area. These broad goals are to be achieved by implementing an overall plan that is to include the following:
